Steven Gray
Expert Basketball Trainer
Steven Gray is an Afro-Indigenous (Nooksack) former professional basketball player known for his versatility, leadership, and skills on both ends of the court. A dynamic guard with a strong basketball IQ, Gray made a name for himself in college basketball and went on to play professionally in various international leagues.
Early Life and College Career:
Born and raised in the small town of Chimacum, Steven Gray developed a love for basketball at a young age. He played high school basketball at Chimacum High School and Bainbridge High School, where he became a standout player and caught the attention of Gonzaga University. His passion and commitment to the game earned him a scholarship to play at Gonzaga, where he further honed his skills. He currently is the 5th all-time leading scorer in the Washington High School basketball.
At the collegiate level, Gray was known for his scoring ability, sharp shooting, and exceptional court vision. He made significant contributions to his team, earning All-Conference honors and establishing himself as one of the top guards in his country. His leadership on and off the court was instrumental in his team’s success, and he helped guide them to four straight NCAA tournament appearances.
Steven also participated in school theater and traveled to Zambia, Africa to teach English for a summer study abroad program. He is known for his unique approach to being a college basketball player.
Professional Career:
After finishing his college career, Gray took his talents overseas, playing for several teams in top international leagues. His professional career spanned multiple countries, where he became known for his competitive spirit and adaptability in various playing environments. He played predominantly in France and Greece and had stints in Latvia. Israel, Bosnia, and Croatia. Gray's experience allowed him to thrive and leave a lasting impact on every team he played for.
Throughout his professional journey, Gray consistently demonstrated his skillset as a guard with exceptional perimeter shooting, playmaking abilities, and defensive prowess. His leadership and mentoring on younger players were also highly valued by coaches and teammates alike.
He currently holds the Basketball Champions League Record for the most efficient basketball ever played in the league.
Post-Playing Career & Steven Gray Basketball:
After retiring from professional play, Steven Gray transitioned into coaching and mentoring the next generation of basketball talent. He initially transitioned to being the athletic director at the Muckleshoot Tribal School and then started Steven Gray Basketball. He runs clinics, camps, and training sessions designed to develop young athletes’ skills, work ethic, and understanding of the game. His coaching philosophy emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and basketball IQ, helping players reach their full potential on the court.
Steven Gray continues to be a respected figure in the basketball community, inspiring players with his experience, dedication, and passion for the game.
